ICAI announces result dates through an official notice on icai.org a few days before the result. Dates shared on social media before that notice are only guesses, so rely on the ICAI announcement.
How to check your CA result online
- Open the official result website icai.nic.in/caresult (also linked from icai.org).
- Choose your exam: CA Final, CA Intermediate or CA Foundation (January 2026).
- Enter your roll number and either your registration number or PIN, as asked on the page.
- Type the captcha and submit. Your marks for each paper, group status and overall result will appear.
- Download or print the page, and keep a screenshot. The official mark sheet follows later from ICAI.
On result day the website can be slow because lakhs of students log in together. Keep your admit card handy for the roll number, stay calm and try again after a few minutes if the page does not load.
CA pass criteria: how much do you need?
The passing rule is the same idea at every level:
- At least 40% marks in each paper, and
- At least 50% marks in aggregate of all papers of the group (or of all four papers at Foundation).
Missing either condition means the group is not cleared, even if your total is high. This is why a single weak paper can cost you a whole group, and why steady practice in every subject matters more than over-preparing your favourite paper.
Exemption in a paper (Intermediate and Final)
At CA Intermediate and CA Final, if you score 60% or more in a paper but do not clear the group, you get an exemption in that paper. The exemption is valid for the next three attempts, so you do not have to write that paper again during that period. You may also surrender an exemption if you want to write the paper again; read ICAI's current rules before deciding. There is no paper-wise exemption at CA Foundation.
Merit list and pass percentage
Along with the result, ICAI usually publishes the all-India merit list (ranks) for CA Intermediate and CA Final and the overall pass percentage for each level and group. These figures change every attempt, so check the official press release on icai.org instead of numbers forwarded on chat groups.
Unhappy with your marks? Verification of answer books
ICAI does not allow a full re-evaluation of answer books. What you can apply for, within the window announced after the result, is:
- Verification of marks: ICAI checks that every answer has been evaluated, that the marks have been totalled correctly, and that the marks have been carried correctly to the result. If an error is found, the marks are corrected.
- Certified copies of evaluated answer books: you can request copies of your checked answer books to see where you lost marks.
Apply online through the ICAI portal and pay the fee per paper. Do it quickly; the application window is short and is announced only once.
Passed? Here is what comes next
- CA Foundation passed: register for CA Intermediate as early as you can, plan your study for both groups, and understand the new syllabus and paper pattern.
- CA Intermediate passed: complete the required courses and start or continue practical training as per ICAI's scheme; plan your CA Final preparation alongside.
- CA Final passed: congratulations! Apply for ICAI membership once you meet the requirements and plan your career path, whether in practice, industry or further study.
Did not clear this time? A plan for the next attempt
A setback in one attempt is common in the CA course and is not the end of the road. What matters is what you change before the next one. Start by being honest about why marks were lost:
- Look at paper-wise marks. Which papers fell below 40%? Which were close to 60% (an exemption you narrowly missed)? This tells you where to spend your time.
- Get your answer books if needed. Certified copies show whether the problem was knowledge, presentation, or time management.
- Re-plan your study. Most students who fall short have studied enough but written too few full-length papers under exam conditions.
- Practise writing, not just reading. Write papers in three hours, get them checked, and fix the same mistakes before they reach the exam hall.
